In this post, we take a look at the vocabulary used to describe different times of the day in English.
Dawn is the word used to describe the time of day when the sun comes up (sunrise).
Early morning starts from about two hours before sunrise until about 7:00 am.
Morning starts from sunrise and ends at 12:00 pm (noon).
Late morning starts at around 10:00 am and ends at 12:00 pm.
Noon is the middle of the day. It can also be called "MIDDAY" (12:00 pm).
Early afternoon starts from 12:00 pm and ends around 3:00 pm.
Afternoon starts at noon (12:00 pm) and ends around 6:00 pm.
Late afternoon starts about 4:00 pm and ends around 6:00 pm.
Dusk is the word used to describe the time of day when the sun goes down (sunset).
Early evening starts at around 5:00 pm and ends around 7:00 pm.
Evening starts at around 5:00 pm and ends around 10:00 pm.
Late evening starts at around 8:00 pm and ends around 10:00 pm.
Midnight is 12:00 am (the end of one day and the beginning of the next day).
Night starts from around 10:00 pm and ends around sunrise (dawn).

The middle of the night starts from around 1:00 am and ends at around two hours before sunrise.
